Angelo Sauper’s iconic purple Geara Zulu Frontal Guards-Type. This kit is remarkable in a way that even Bandai cannot get the base colors right. The kit is fuschia-violet color as opposed to what is in the series that is a littler paler and darker core color for the violet.
This is a good example where what ever wrong/design issue that a Bandai-release kit has will be just copied over by the China brands. After all, it’s a 1:1 copy.

Part 1: Box, Runners, and Manual
The kit has no effect parts, but has the Lange Bruno Kai set which in the anime, shoots beams. Though the unit is said to have beam tomahawks and hand grenades. Angelo Sauper’s kit with the Lange Bruno Kai has not included such.
The stickers are pretty good and can be used to accent the white lines on the kit. I used a white Gundam Marker instead.
Typical Bandai manual, scanned and reproduced.
Part 2: Head Unit
Typical Geara Zulu, only with the commander horn. I liked the design personally, since it was inspired by the Nazi Germany Gas Masks wearing soldiers.
Plus keeping with the tradition of hoses on the faces of the units that is one of distinguishing features of the 0079 Zaku II. That and the parallels of Zeon movement to the Third Reich. I left out the helmet sticker if you’re wondering, but the Geara Zulus has stickers that is supposed to be mounted the same spot as seen in the WWII photo above.
Part 3: Torso Unit
Part 4: Arm Unit
The arm is typically HG 1/144 in articulation. The details is just right. I really fancy those collar designs as it gives a regal vibe to these grunt units. They look really fashionable and looks really great for a grunt unit. It makes the EFSF suit look like plebs.
Part 5: Waist Unit
Another nod to the Zaku skirt tradition. The skirts doesn’t limit forward movement, but the front skirts cannot be separated due to how it is attached to the crotch. Separating them would take some modifications. The side skirts does limit the movement at certain angle and positions. It has no bearing in moving the legs sideways, but it does hamper front/back movements on a certain angle.
Part 6: Leg Unit
The leg is of the older 1/144 standard. It doesn’t pivot on the upper thigh and just bends at 90-degrees on the knees. It has boosters on the side of the thigh as a nod to the SS uniform we showed you before.
Part 7: Weapons and Add-ons
Lange Bruno Kai
The Lange Bruno is a heavy weapon set that uses solid rounds, this was used by Gilboa Sant’s Geara Zulu in one of the deployments in Gundam Unicorn. The Kai (Custom) in Angelo’s Lange Bruno is instead of solid rounds, it spews out a high output beam discharge similar to a Mega Launcher.
Standard Issue Shield
The shield is a plain standard issue Geara Zulu Guards Type shield. The shield lacks the shield mounted grenades seen in the series and is consistently lacking in the other HG release.
Part 8: Geara Zulu [Angelo Sauper Use] Completed
Part 9: I can’t believe I fired. I’ve ruined the Captain’s perfect battlefield!
He’s behaving exactly like the simulations predicted.
The kit is from year 2010, the time when there was really no HG standard like this year’s High Grade – Build Fighter and the All-Gundam project which aims to rethink the designs of the GunPlas so that they better articulation and be universally swappable as much as possible. The Geara Zulu has only one joint gimmick, which allows the shoulder joint to move a bit forward so that it can hold the rifles a bit better.
The joint on normal position.
The joint fully extended forwards. This will be limited depending on the shoulder armor.
This makes it possible to do the pose below, otherwise it can’t even reach the barrel of the Lange Bruno Kai unless it was pointed towards the other arm.
The kits ‘okay’, nothing remarkable or amazing. I’d still get the kit for completion and will probably paint it to correct the colors. I personally find the details of the Geara Zulu quite pleasing that I don’t care much for the articulation. I’m not expecting them to do extreme and elaborate poses as it seems just out of character the way they are seen in the OVA or the Universal Century in general.
- Details is well defined, then again Bandai just can’t do purple right.
- Simple assembly
- Stickers are great
- Color is the same of what Bandai did, it’s quite off.
- Could do better articulation though I’m not going to use it, it’s just to know that I have that extra-articulation.
For completion of the Gundam UC series, of course you should get the kit. Char wouldn’t be Char if he doesn’t have someone like Gyunei Guss tailing him around or any young blood. After all, he’s rumored to be fond of kids with NewType potential.
